Hospital Radio Volunteer
What would I be doing?
As a hospital radio volunteer, it would be your role to bring much-needed entertainment and friendship into the lives of patients. You would typically work in a team alongside other volunteers and have the opportunity to gain experience in all aspects of running a radio station, from presenting and engineering to admin and fundraising.
As a hospital radio volunteer you would do some or all of the following:
- visit wards to collect music requests and dedications
- build a rapport with patients to make their stay more pleasant
- help to prepare programmes
- operate the studio desk or computer system
- present whole shows or short, pre-recorded items
- contribute new ideas for how to improve the service
- help with fundraising events.
What skills would I need?
- energy and enthusiasm
- excellent interpersonal skills
- an understanding of the patient-focused nature of hospital radio
- a passion for radio
- an understanding of computers
- the ability to operate equipment
- fundraising ideas.
