Administration and Clerical Volunteer
Where would I volunteer?
As an administrative and clerical (A&C) volunteer you could volunteer in a range of health settings such as:
- in the voluntary services department of a hospital
- on hospital wards and clinics
- on reception
- in a hospice
- in the equipment stores.
What would I be doing?
You would carry out administrative tasks to support the day-to-day running of the department, which could include:
- filing patient records
- sorting mail and delivering post
- entering data
- shredding confidential documents
- photocopying and faxing
- answering the telephone and passing on messages
- helping to create and update patient files
- taking meeting notes
- handing out and collecting patient questionnaires.
What skills would I need?
You would be expected to have:
- a good overall standard of reading, writing and numeracy
- good interpersonal skills
- good communication skills
- the ability to use your initiative
- good organisational skills
- a compassionate nature
- an interest in people
- an awareness of the need for confidentiality.
