What work could I do?

There are many skilled jobs such as:

• Plumber
• Electrician
• Carpenter / joiner
• Painter and decorator
• Roofer
• Plasterer
• Bricklayer
• Chef
• Motor vehicle technician

 

Why should I get a trade?

Skilled jobs are the future. Unskilled jobs are declining because jobs are becoming more complex and computers can do the easier stuff. And when you're experienced, you can move into self-employment, consulting or training.

Would it suit me?

If you like working with your hands, and have writing and number skills, a trade could be right up your street.

How do I get in?

Usually through an apprenticeship. You'd get training, a wage and also time to study for a qualification, usually an NVQ or a City and Guilds.
